February 13, 2017 I Washington, DC
In recent years, the Navy, Army and Air Force have each implemented aggressive plans that have put the U.S. military on a path to significantly expand its use of clean, renewable solar energy. Each branch has outlined ambitious renewable energy targets that will drive 3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy installations by 2025, to help meet a wider DOD goal in title 10 USC 2911, that 25 percent of total facility energy consumption to come from renewable energy sources by 2025.
These aggressive renewable energy targets are a response to rising energy costs, potential energy supply disruptions and the need for more secure and clean energy generation and distribution. In 2012 alone, the DOD spent more than $20 billion on energy and consumed over five billion gallons of oil. An aging national transmission network, global fuel price market volatility and a dependence on foreign oil continue to put mission-critical energy supply at risk.
Join the Solar Energy Industries Association to hear how the military has increasingly turned to solar energy to address these vital DOD objectives and meet its renewables targets, and how companies and state commissions can facilitate continued growth.
Topics will include:
- Why solar power and renewable energy is important for domestic security, how solar installations can be aligned with the mission of the armed forces, and the prospects for continued renewable growth in the new administration
- How state commissions are facilitating use of solar by the military
- What it’s like for solar companies to work with DoD installations, and how to work successfully with the various service branches
Speakers:
- Moderator: Sean Gallagher, Vice President of State Affairs, Solar Energy Industries Association
- Commissioner Lauren “Bubba” McDonald, Georgia Public Service Commission
- Retired Colonel Dave McNeil, President/CEO, Hannah Solar Government Services LLC
- Shawn Bennet, Senior Advisor, US AIr Force Office of Energy Assurance
The breakfast will run from 7:00 - 8:15 a.m, with the panel discussion beginning at 7:15.
